Compression of files

Compression is software which saves files to a much smaller size. You will generally need the compression software to open the file again. If the compression software is installed on the computer, then either when you download the file or try to open the file, the computer will automatically expand it back to its original size. Then it can be openned by other software programs.

The most frequently used software is WinZip. When the file is compressed it has a .zip file name.

The most frequently used software is Stuffit. When the file is compresed it has a .sit file name.
